The WZB Berlin Social Science Center carries out problem-oriented basic research, focusing especially on developments, problems and innovation opportunities in/of modern societies. Its research is theory-based and practice-oriented, and it often draws on international comparisons.

The thematic focuses of the WZB's research include:

  • Society and economic dynamics

  • Dynamics of political systems
  • Migration and diversity
  • Science policy

Some 160 researchers, including German and international researchers, and including sociologists, political scientists, economists, legal scholars and historians, collaborate at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center.

The results of the WZB's research are published for the scientific community, and for experts and practitioners in the areas of policy-making, business, the media and civic organisations.

A non-university research institute, the WZB is a member of the Leibniz Association.
