Initially, this group consists of two measures for improving the research infrastructure for research on higher education and science (FDZ, KB) and four "integration projects" (BeWert, go up, LeimU, SciMo). The latter involve close cooperation between the former Institute for Research Information and Quality Assurance (iFQ, Berlin; now a department of the DZHW) and the German Centre for Higher Education Research and Science Studies (DZHW, Hannover). The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) provided additional funding in support of the merger between the two institutions, which has since been formally completed. The relevant funding decision was made on the basis of an evaluation procedure and of opinions provided by external scientists.
In addition, the Academic Profession in the Knowledge Society (APIKS) study will be carried out for the third time, following studies in 1992 and 2007. APIKS is an international, comparative study of working conditions in the science sector and of practices in hiring scientists. Finally, the Leibniz Institute for Science and Mathematics Education (IPN) is funding a longitudinal study of teacher training, including the pertinent teaching practice period (PaLea III).
